Focused over Fast
Business decisions have to be made. Tasks need to be completed. It can be easy to buy into the go fast, go hard mentality. Often that leads to going fast without the clarity and focus to really make the actions matter.
What do you do when everything around you is moving fast and it feels as if you can’t keep pace?
Slow down. Consider that while many have embraced fast, they have mistaken it for effective. Fast and effective are not synonymous. You can do a lot and move really quickly and make little progress towards your business priorities. Slow down and pay attention to what is consuming your time. Are you focused on what you have identified as the key priorities for your business? If you haven’t identified your business priorities. Take time to identify what matters most to your business’s success over the next 12 months. Consider the actions you need to take to move in line with those priorities. That is where your time and energy should be spent.
It is easy to assume flowing with the chaos is doing something, but flowing with a focused attention on priorities is more effective even if it seems like it is moving at a slower pace. Your outcomes will speak for themselves.
Equally as important, you set an example for your team that models effective action.
